By Rachel Ryan, Enlight Media

We’re thrilled to share that In Context: Patterns in American Racism, created by Ohlinger Studios and Enlight Media, has been honored as a Silver Winner in the “Education or Literacy Platform, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion” category at the 4th Annual Anthem Awards.

This recognition places In Context alongside a global community of mission-driven innovators who are using creative storytelling, technology, and education to advance positive social change. Winners are selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a group that includes leaders from organizations such as Schmidt Futures, Pivotal Ventures, REI Co-op, the Brennan Center for Justice, TikTok, PepsiCo, the Fifteen Percent Pledge, Tom’s of Maine, the NAACP, McCann Worldgroup, and others who champion equity and civic progress.

A Program Rooted in History and Built for Action

In Context was designed to meet a critical need: helping organizations understand the historical forces that shape today’s inequities. The debut collection, Patterns in American Racism, brings six video-based modules to workplaces and learning communities, covering pivotal topics such as:

  • The origin and history of slavery in America

  • Jim Crow and lynching

  • Housing discrimination

  • Educational inequality

  • Mass incarceration

By grounding learning in historical truth, In Context gives participants the tools to recognize systemic patterns, take responsibility, and engage in constructive action. As conversations about equity and justice continue to evolve across the country, this grounding in history remains essential.

Why This Work Matters

In Context aims to provide the historical foundation necessary to make inclusion and belonging initiatives truly impactful,” says the development team. “Understanding the origins of systemic oppression compels all of us to act with urgency, empathy, and accountability.”

Anthem Awards General Manager Patricia McLoughlin echoed the significance of this year’s honorees: “The Winners of this year’s Anthem Awards are truly inspiring. At a moment of great uncertainty, their extraordinary efforts provide hope that a better tomorrow is possible.”

Looking Ahead

This year marked the most competitive Anthem Awards season yet, with over 2,300 submissions from 34 countries. We’re honored to be recognized among so many bold and impactful initiatives.

As In Context continues to grow, with upcoming collections like Women Rising in development, our mission remains clear: to bring historical understanding to the forefront, spark courageous conversations, and empower organizations and individuals to create meaningful, lasting impact.

A portion of Anthem Awards program revenue helps fund The Anthem Fund, supporting nonprofit organizations that make a measurable impact around the world; a community we’re proud to stand alongside.
